It’s a shame. My mother died at 58 and that was too soon. 56 is waaay too soon.

His life was very interesting. He had a vision, and persued it to the end. He was himself. He did not compromise.

Music is sold completely different.

The way music is heard is completely different.

The way products are launched is different.

The way movies are created is completely different.

The way movies are watched is compeltely different.

The way we communicate is completely different.

It’s amazing what one one person, with a vision, and determination, can do. He left the world a better place.

I’ve been using Popup Domination on my sites. It’s cool, and flexible. I also have used the ultimate footer Ad. Again, nothing wrong with it. It works, and it does what its supposed to do. I have nothing bad to say about either of these products. Then I discovered WP Subscribers plugin. This premium plugin is so versatile that it does everything but my dishes (and I think that’s in beta). For example

1. Works with all Email providers (aweber, etc).

2. Create Opt in Forms in the footer or header

3. Create footer or headers that are just a click (not an opt in form).

4. Create pop up windows that dim the background forcing the visitor to read.

5. Create a count down timer to add a sense of urgency to have people sign up (haven’t investigated that).

6. Create exit pop ups (you know the “Click Cancel to stay here because we have a special gift for you” button).

7. Once you make all these forms, you can have complete control over where they show up (and even insert them into posts, widgets, etc). You can even have them show up for specific categories.

The best part? Pop Up Domination is $47, and Ultimate Footer Ad is $47, and so is WP Subscribers (except it does what both of those do, and then some).

I could see using this to boost your iTunes subscriptions (add a graphic and link it right to your iTunes page), or twitter, or email, etc.

I just got done listening to Internet Marketing This Week, and I must say they did a great job of boiling down some of the verbage about the new FTC rules into something that I could go, “Oh good, I don’t have to worry about that.” It’s one of my favorite podcasts as they stick to the point, brainstorm a bit, and get out.

Here is a novel idea. I know they whole “Web 2.0″ saw a large amount of people giving away their stuff (and subsequently, then going out of business). Back in the day, I used to use Netscape and then I eventually switched to Internet Explorer (I was leading classes on it at the time). So the more and more I work with blogs and such, the more people are asking me "You’re still using Internet Explorer??!?!?!"  as if I was listening to a Neil Diamond cassette. I use Firefox for a few things with Amazon.com’s S3, but other than that I (apparently) am missing the boat.

Alot of people are using Skype. Its a very popular tool. I just found out about a new FREE tool that allows you to do webinars via skype. It’s called Yugma. You share your desktop with 10 attendees for free. Now for a few bucks a month you can also share mouse and keyboard control with attendees, schedule sessions, record sessions, webinars, change presenters, and use the "white board" tool. The more attendees you add the more your monthly fees will be. It looks very interested. I plan on trying this in a future "live training" session at the School of Podcasting to see how it compares to some of the other tools I’ve used. I really like the free feature, and the fact that I can run it on any computer (and yes its cross platform for you mac people),

You can try all of these features forfree for 15 days. If you have a group of 10 or less you can have all the premium features for 10 bucks a month. If you have between 10-20 attendees its only $19.99 a month.

WebEx MeetMeNow wants to charge you $39 a month, and Gotomeeting.com wants $49 a month.

Now that you are podcating, the next question seems to be "how do I get more listeners?" or "How do I get more traffic." This usually leads to a discussion about Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Creating my Weekly Web Tools podcast, I often ran across many free tools for SEO at the Seo Book website. There is plenty of free information that they used to sell their book.  ($79)

Now the book has grown into a series of tutorials to get you "in the know" quickly, as well as a communty that will trade secrets. The cost is $50 a month.

I recently sponsored a child (www.alexalan.com ) and thought I would make a blog at wordpress.com and put up a widget from www.chipin.com so others could chip in on helping this poor kid from bolivia.

I picked my theme, uploaded some images, and thought "great." I knew I was going to be limited in some ways, but as I was not going to podcast about this, I thought I would be fine. I did think about using some of their 3 gigs of space. This should be great.

Free is great. Free is fun. But you get what you pay for. There is a niche for this but I like the ability to do what I want and when I get host a wordpress blog for $2 bucks a month at www.coolerwebsites.com I ask, "Is the hassle worth the 6 cents a day you’re saving?

OK, I’m a podcaster, but I ‘ve also written an ebook for musicians (www.musicianlibrary.com) I’m always looking for new tips and tricks on marketing, and I’m also looking to get start using video. I had heard about the Telesummit my favorite angel in white Leesa Barnes was putting together but I hadn’t had the chance to go over and see.

Don’t make the mistake I almost did. WOW.

There are people there talking on book publishing, on social media, on promotion, on blogging, building your brand, podcasters, secrets, tips, insights. I mean everyone is there.

I thought well I won’t have time to attend it this weekend. Then I noticed the dates.

ITS A WHOLE WEEK  AND THEN SOME February 20-29

I probably still won’t attend. But you know what? I can listen to it LATER.

Here in Ohio its unseasonably warm (not a spec of snow in sight). However I know if I just wait I will be up to my eyeballs in snow. I’ll be shivering and wanting some hot co-co. Then I’ll warm up next to the fire on my ipod.

The other night we were having one of our weekly roundtables with the members of the School of Podcasting and someone asked about having "one of those little icon thingies" for your website. Well its amazing how much information you can ifnd when a few curious people hit google at the same time.

We found this website where you can take any image and turn in to the 16×16 image for your favicon.ico But the problem is you need to put this on your website in between the "head" tags. Well most of us are using WordPress, and its not as easy asopening your home page and copying and pasting some code. The good news is, when the going gets tough, the tough find a plugin.

Over at http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/ you can upload a single file, activate your plugin, and then simply edit some options to let the plugin know where your favicon is. It was just that easy.

Wordress has released version 2.3 (Dexter)

Here are some of the new features:

1. Native tagging support allows you to use tags in addition to categories on your posts, if you so choose

2. Update Notifications alerts you when a new version of WordPress or a plugin is available.

3. Canonical URLs is some sort of redirecting tools for those using slugs. Kind of a geeky feature. In the end you have less invalid pages which increased SEO Rankings.

4. Pending review feature is very cool if you have a multi-author blog.

5. An Advanced WYSIWYG feature with more features (I’ll let you know when I see them)
