If you were a SXSW you might have caught Kevin Smith, the filmaker, directory, and now Podcaster. In a CNN article titled, “Podasting Saved My Career” Kevin mentions that after doing the film “Zach and Miri Make a Porno” that he had kind of lost his passion for making movies. Instead he felt more like an artist and turned to podcasting. As he put it, first do something you love, then you find a way to make money at it.

His audience would contact him and say, “”People would tweet left and right: ‘You put out so many free podcasts; how can I pay it back?' ” said Smith, who has more than 2 million followers on Twitter. “I was like, ‘Go buy a T-shirt' and they were like, ‘Cool.' “” Another way he is making money is by taking his show on the road. He and his partner Mosier are selling out venues and selling merchandise along the way. Smith now heads up a Sodcast network of funny and sometimes raunchy Internet radio shows.

He had started his website in the mid-'90s' and before long, it had a message board with more than 200,000 registered users — a huge number on the Internet of the '90s — and it established Smith as one of the first filmmakers with a major online presence.
