I just got this email
Mevio has delivered emails to all of our registered and active producers informing them of the current change in direction Mevio has taken from audio podcasting to online short form video entertainment. We sincerely apologize if you did not receive the email.
We have had the great pleasure of working with all of you and wish everyone continued success with their audio podcasts. Your Mevio account is now activated in order to ensure you can download and move all of your content. As we’ve stated earlier, no content has been lost or deleted. For producers who are migrating to another hosting site, Mevio will also redirect your RSS feeds.
Once I get my stuff moved, I'll explain more…
Once again the free business model does not work
It should be noted that there was NO advance warning of this change. Podcasters suddenly found their shows “suspended”, and Mevio would NOT return any emails or so-called “support tickets”. Some eventually received notices that Mevio was looking into ways to allow access to the shows, but I know of nobody that received an email like you posted in this story.
Mevio definitely did NOT deliver emails to all of their registered and active producers. I only got a reply because I managed to contact the Senior Marketing Director directly.
NO advance warning
NO communication with the majority of podcasters
NO reply to support requests (even with a support ticket)
I know as users of a free service (read the terms and conditions) that Mevio has the right to withdraw its service at any time and without notice, but this hasn’t done the company’s reputation any good at all.
I’ve backed up my files for free (and permanently) at the Internet Archive – archive.org – it’s a little slower to download files from here but at least it’s not going to disappear overnight and leave me stranded.
Just dawned on me today that Music Alley is also from Mevio. I’m wondering if this is affecting it as well. I cant log into my account there but the site is up and running.
As far as I can see Music Alley is not currently being supported by its owners. I suspect it’s probably just being kept for the advertising it brings in. I contacted them some time back to ask how I could get my show as a ‘featured podcast’ on the front page but never got a reply. Some of the current ‘featured podcasts’ such as Accident Hash and the U-Turn Cafe haven’t been running for years, and there’s been no attempt whatsoever to update this. The fact that the homepage still advertises Mevio’s free show hosting for podcasters is further proof that Music Alley has been abandoned (in much the same way that Podcast Alley has also been abandoned by it’s owner).
Thanks for your post. I had the same thing happen to me. The weirdest part is that they sponsor the one show they didn’t delete.
Makes me wonder what’s going on at Mevio…
Wish they would communicate with us – I’d be happy them to keep my feed, but just deleting it without telling me is unacceptable.
