In a freak accdentident today my cousin was killed (he was a BMX bike racer). He was 33. He has two kids under the age of 7 (I can't remember). There is no “tomorrow” for Sean. Sean always thought he was invincible, and a helmet wouldn't have saved him in this case (his chest slamed into another guys handlebars). How doesn't really matter. He's gone. He was here yesterday, and now he's not.
So if you have kids, hug them a little tighter tonight. If you haven't talked to your parents lately, call them now. If you are arguing with someone, holding a grudge, put down your pride and pick up the phone.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Hi Dave, that is what you call a “freak accident”. I’d never have thought BMX racing could be that dangerous. Thanks for sharing.
Dave,
Know what you mean. At any moment, we can go “poof” (like John Ritter and many others), and we will never have said the words to our dearest loved ones before we go (you are right, we are not immortal). The only thing we can take with us after life are MEMORIES (only right before you go, for those of us who have been on the verge of death in the past), and the best memories are those with relationships–so take the opportunity to have as many of the good memories as possible. No, not even Mr. Bill Gates can take a single measly dollar of all the billions that he has — his memories will be of all the people who probably hate his guts, after what he did to them by “destroying” them instead of just competing with them…will it seem worth it as he rests on his deathbed? …
Right on, Dave…a smile and some affectionate words are worth more than all the billions that Gates and Ballmer have or ever will have.
Enough…(I am getting off the soapbox)
I am so sorry. I will keep your family in my prayers.
Dave, I’m so sorry – what a tragedy. My heart goes out the loved ones he leaves behind. Hugs to your entire family.
